METALLURGICAL LAB

ASM's Metallurgical Laboratory supports the requirements of our customers in addition to supporting quality control, engineering, and Research & Development (R&D).  Our Metallurgical department is involved in R&D material selection and assists in process control and improvement.

Apparent hardness is a routine process check.  Sample mounting and preparation are used for microhardness values and analysis.

Various structural tests can be performed such as tensile, yield and elongation, crush values, impact requirements and chemical and carbon analysis.

ASM works with A2LA labs for material Certification and Analysis.

When specifying hardness for a powdered metal part, it is always necessary to differentiate between the apparent hardness and the particle hardness.  The apparent hardness is measured over a composite of pores and solid material and is, therefore, lower than the actual particle hardness.  Because your powdered metal parts must perform to your expectations, we use a Tukon Tester to measure the true hardness of the part.

This is another step ASM takes to deliver quality every time.
